A revert to Islam at 16, Ustadh Brett holds a Bachelor's in Education from the University of Kansas and has spent over a decade studying overseas in Cairo, Istanbul, Konya, and now Kurdistan under traditional scholars including Shaykh Mahmoud Dahla Al-Dimashqi and Shaykh Mohammad Salih Al-Ghursi. He has taught with Fawakih Institute since 2020.

Brett accepted Islam at the age of 16 while attending high school in Shawnee, KS. After high school, he received his Bachelor’s degree in education with a specialty in curriculum and teaching from the University of Kansas, all while studying Arabic and Qur’an with local teachers and serving as President of his university’s Muslim Students Association. During his university studies, Brett did a summer of Arabic studies at Fawakih Institute in Herndon, VA and another summer with Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan. Soon after graduating from university, Brett took another journey overseas, this time to Cairo, Egypt where he graduated from Nile Language Center (Markaz Al-Neel) and studied Qur’an and several of the major Arabic sciences with private teachers.

After a year-and-a-half in Cairo, Brett moved to Turkey, where he studied for three years in Istanbul at Fatih Institute for Islamic and Arabic Studies (Ma’had Al-Fātih lil-’Ulūm Al-Shar’iyyah wal-’Arabiyyah) led by Shaykh Mahmoud Dahla Al-Dimashqi (may Allah preserve him), as well as two years in Konya at Madrasah Al-Falāh, led by Shaykh Mohammad Salih Al-Ghursi (may Allah preserve him). Currently, Brett is continuing his traditional studies in Kurdistan, Iraq in a branch of the famous Madrasah Beyarah Al-Sharifah. He has been a proud online instructor for Fawakih Institute since 2020.

"Fawakih delivers as advertised. This is an effective online Arabic grammar and vocabulary program. Our teacher (Fahd Yasin)'s dedication to student success and patience are outstanding. Daily review (15+ minutes) are ideal for memorizing new vocabulary and come prepared for class. I would argue that a minimum of 30 minutes per day is required to have fun and avoid struggling in class or with the quizzes."

"I most appreciate the opportunity to transfer from the regular paced 1A to the gradual pace. My instructors in both courses were excellent but the gradual pace was much less stressful and more conducive to my learning style. Ustadh Fahd is very patient and corrects errors kindly and gives many useful ways to understand the material. Though the material is very challenging and can be overwhelming, our instructor and fellow classmates are encouraging and supportive. I hope to have Ustadh Fahd as an instructor for as much of the curriculum as possible. He has a warm personality and great teaching style.
